Summer-Proof Your Smile

Two hundred and fifty years ago, fifty-six people picked up a pen and signed their names to something that changed the world.

They didn't settle. They didn't shrug and say "good enough." They looked at what they had, decided it wasn't what they deserved, and they declared something better.

This July, America turns 250. And as we head into one of the most celebratory summers in a generation — the cookouts, the fireworks, the parades, the gatherings — I've been thinking about that word:

independence — freedom from dependence on, or control by, another person or thing; the state of not having to rely on anyone else for what you need.

What would it look like to declare your own independence this summer?

Not from a country or a king — but from the quiet voice that tells you to keep your lips together in photos. From the habit of laughing with your hand in front of your mouth. From settling for a smile that doesn't reflect who you actually are.

Summer has a way of putting us front and center. Weddings. Reunions. Vacations. Celebrations. These are the moments that get photographed, remembered, and talked about for years.

You deserve to show up fully to every single one of them, which brings me to someone I want to celebrate this month.

Mary came to us quietly. She's a woman of the land — she farms, she works, she doesn't ask for much. But she knew something. She knew she didn't want to spend another season hiding a smile she didn't love.

It took courage. Real courage. The kind that's easy to overlook in someone so modest and steady. But she made the decision, she trusted the process, and she saw it through.

When Mary saw her new smile for the first time, she was overwhelmed. Overwhelmed with joy. That moment — that specific look on a patient's face — is why we do what we do every single day.

Mary, we are so proud of you. Thank you for letting us be part of your story.

This summer, as we celebrate 250 years of people refusing to settle — I want to extend that same invitation to you.

Serah Celebrates 1 Year!

Last month, Serah celebrated her 1 year anniversary as our Smile Solutions of Baltimore Patient Care Coordinator! It's been wonderful having her on the team this past year! Serah is your go-to gal for all things scheduling and is always making our patients feel welcome and cared for.
